Musings on NaNo
I Thought I Could I Thought I Could ... and I did.
Looking back, I'd have to say that it was easier than I thought it would be. Whether or not I've produced anything worth reading, I'm not sure, but other than the initial struggle to get started (and having things keep getting in the way of having time to write), getting 50,000 words from my brain to my keyboard and onto the hard drive wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.
And it did get me back into the habit of writing at least a little bit every day.
And on the whole, I really only had one rebellious character -- Ardan Quintus, who, back in chapter one, turned out to be too nice to be the kind of guy who would sell off parts of his ship to pay gambling debts. So instead of being the captain and dying, Ardan became third-in-command, and lived. I'm very glad now that I spared Ardan, because he and Phoebe have really connected, in ways she doesn't even consciously realize yet. Not that Ace hasn't found other friends and potential love interests over the course of the story, including Vittore "Guh" Vere (who took on the phyisical attributes that were originally going to belong to the Strumpet's third-in-command, but not his personality). But Ardan ... well, he was just too interesting to die.
Oh well ... back to dreaming up some more plot twists ...
